BMW SCAD Pro

BMW came to SCADpro with a question: how do you get a younger crowd through the doors of the BMW Welt in Munich, and make them want to stay once they’re inside? Fifteen of us from different majors spent the quarter on it and pitched two installations for the space. I was the 3D artist on the team, and I built the Future Forum.

The Future Forum’s shell is a double helix that mirrors the architecture of the Welt. It wraps around amphitheater seating with a globe suspended over the floor that plays the show content. The seats are built from the same sustainable materials BMW uses in its cars, and each one has a companion screen in the armrest that counts down to the next show.

I modeled the structure, lit it, and rendered the walkthroughs and stills we used in the final pitch. I animated the globe and the LED light show that runs across the walls. All of it started as gray blockouts in class and got lit and rendered over the ten weeks, from kickoff to the pitch.
